Between Villages
ENVIRONMENTAL STORIES ROOTED IN COMMUNITY
Between Villages is the environmental storytelling branch of The Village Creative Forum, focused on creating films and media that connect people, place, and the natural world.
Featured Documentary
WHAT THE WATER CARRIES
What the Water Carries follows the journey of water through the Shenandoah Valley, from mountain springs and forested streams to the rivers that connect our communities downstream. Through cinematic storytelling, conservation science, and the voices of people working to protect these waters, the film explores what our waterways carry with them — life, history, responsibility, and hope.Â
We have been filming this project over the past year and are currently working to secure the remaining funding needed to bring the full film to life.
Mindset & Philosophy

Between Villages is rooted in the belief that environmental stories are also human stories. Through grounded, cinematic storytelling, we explore the connection between people, place, wildlife, and the natural world — helping communities see what is worth protecting and why it matters.
Film Showcase
Live Stake Harvesting This footage was filmed for What the Water Carries, but this specific edit was adapted as a standalone, public-facing video for nonprofit use. It offers a look at the hands-on restoration work featured in the documentary, where live stakes are harvested to help restore streambanks, reduce erosion, and protect the waterways that connect our communities.
Stories Between People and Place
Between Villages creates environmental films and photography rooted in community, conservation, and the natural world. We help nonprofits, scientists, and local organizations tell grounded stories that connect people to the places worth protecting.
